Enthusiasm is defined as "lively interest" and synonymous with eagerness, warmth, fervor, passion, devotion.  Enthusiastic people are usually the happiest and healthiest.  They get things done and encourage others to do the same. 

What to do then in the humdrum of life when enthusiasm is hard to find,  when the weather is gloomy, or troubles come knocking at your door?

After a failed marriage, Mary Kay Ash was down in the dumps. She lost the promotion she was working for in favor of the man she was training.  Frustrated, she left her job and instead started writing a book about helping women in business.  Her enthusiasm paid off for little did she know that the book would be her business plan for the swift success of Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Her company advocated "praising people to success" and having a work-life balance putting "God first, family second, career third" as one of their core values.  Receiving numerous awards, Mary Kay's business philosophy is now being taught in the Harvard Business School.

Be More Enthusiastic

Being fully alive means being enthusiastic in the present moment, seeing the gift that each moment of life is.

  • Make an assessment of your life situation, what you feel good about and what you don't.  Which part of your life needs more enthusiasm?

  • Decide to leave the past in the past and be committed to moving forward.  Dream dreams and believe that you can achieve anything you put your mind and energies to.

  • Memorize by heart Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me."

  • Surround yourself with enthusiastic people and ask them where their passion and drive come from.

  • Put enthusiasm quotes all around your work desk to inspire you.  (see column right)

  • Take care of your diet.  What you eat affects your mood.  These are known enthusiasm promoters: Sardines, Cabbage, Broccoli, Whole Wheat Bread, Green Tea, Strawberries

  • Make time for the things you enjoy doing.  Your enthusiasm will surely show and grow!

Free Craft: Plarn
Are you familiar with plarn?  It's a new word used to describe yarn made out of used plastic bags!  (Plastic + Yarn, got it?)  Isn't it neat?

There are many things you can make out of plarn and all you have to do is stop throwing away plastic bags (and learn crochet while you're at it!)

Many countries now encourage using reusable bags to carry home grocery purchases.  You need to pay for plastic bags if you forget to bring a bag.  The less plastic we use up, the less garbage we have to deal with in our landfills.  Hey, there's a plastic bag beside you, you can turn it into something special!

Watch What You Wear
Ever think of where the beads in your necklace come from?  It's about time we did.  Some of us unknowingly take part in the indiscriminate attack on our oceans.

The Philippines is home to some of the largest coral reefs where our fish eat and breed.  No corals, no fish, no fish, no food.  Global warming and other factors are threatening extinction to the world's corals!

Be part of the solution!  Never buy jewelry or anything made of coral!  Be sure your lifestyle helps preserves the next generation.  

How do I know if this is made from real coral or just an imitation?  You'll know if it is heavy, it is most probably real.  Another test is if you leave it in 1-2 hours in milk, the milk will change color.
