Handmade Grandfolk Gifts

Home-baked cookies - pack them in a nicely covered plastic plate. Decorate with ribbons or stickers all over and don't forget the greetings in a note! If your grandparents have diet restrictions, prepare a healthy alternative like fruits! Grandkids' Program - Our grandfolks never tire of seeing their grandchildren. How much more special would it be if they can prepare a song, poem or dance for them? The more time to practice the better. To simplify things, record in advance a story and rehearse the actions. Work the presentation depending on the age of the kids. Make sure they are enjoying the performance too! One surefire winner is to use the blacklights effect. All you need are blacklights (just one piece from the hardware), music and white gloves (and other white articles) for performers. Choose a song the kids and grandparents will love. The presentation must be done in the dark so consider this too! The white articles will shine through with the use of the blacklight. Letters to Lolo and Lola - Sometimes our grandparents need to be reminded of how much they mean to us. Wouldn't it be nice if they could just read our expressions of affection any time they wanted to? Compile letters from every member of the family. Contents can include: funny anecdotes, drawings, poems, jokes, fond memories of them, things we remember most about them or treasure in their character... Put in a special box. You can make one yourself by getting a shoebox and covering this up with family photos, and/or special colored wrapping paper or textured paper. Portrait of Love - Have the most artistic in the family to draw the likeness of your grandparents and have this framed. An inexpensive way to frame it would be to mount it on hard paper like illustration board and decorate the sides with collage art. For those of us who don't get to spend much time with our fathers, this day is the one of the best opportunities to express our love, appreciation for all they have been to us. There are many ways to do this - one idea is to have the whole family in on it. Have everyone share a meal during that day - and in the middle of the meal, someone announces that they will be doing a surprise honoring for Dad. This is usually done in eulogies but isn't it much better when you honor someone still alive! Each of you can say one or 2 things you like best about him. Recollections of childhood memories also liven up the honoring.
If you're not one for saying speeches, a homemade card or handwritten letter along with a small gift says a lot.
